SPAARKD has partnered with PANGAIA, a B Corp-certified materials science company, operating within the highest social and environmental standards. SPAARKD creators now have unique access to PANGAIA’s extensive patented and trademarked library of plant-based materials science innovations - from fabrics to dyes:
- Organic Cotton: A midweight fabric made using 100% organic cotton, with a loopback texture inside and a finishing that provides extra softness. It’s designed to be worn all year round. Treated with PPRMINT™ oil, a durable odor control, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial treatment that enables our products to stay fresher for longer. Due to its antibacterial properties, you can wear clothing treated with PPRMINT™ many times before they need washing.
- Recycled cotton: A recycled cotton fabric (available in lightweight/heavyweight/jersey) made from 50% reclaimed cotton and 50% organic cotton, with a loopback texture inside and a finishing that provides extra softness. Treated with PPRMINT™ oil, a durable odor control, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial treatment that enables our products to stay fresher for longer. Due to its antibacterial properties, you can wear clothing treated with PPRMINT™ many times before they need washing.
- Mushroom Leather: A mushroom-based leather alternative made from fungi - the fifth kingdom of life on earth. It can be used as a cost-effective, durable, and environmentally responsible biomaterial. It can be cultured into different shapes and engineered for specific material properties.
- FRUTFIBER™: Fabric that looks and feels like cotton. FRUTFIBER™ repurposes food waste, turning banana leaf fiber, pineapple leaf fiber, and bamboo into a new, innovative fabric. Developed by PANGAIA, our materials science partner, who is diversifying a range of bio-based materials to help address the problems linked to the world’s over-reliance on cotton.
- PLNTFIBER™: Fabric that looks and feels like cotton. PLNTFIBER™ uses renewable, fast-growing plants such as Himalayan nettle, bamboo, eucalyptus, and seaweed. Developed by PANGAIA, our materials science partner, who is diversifying a range of bio-based materials to help address the problems linked to the world’s over-reliance on cotton.
- Regenerative Cotton: Regenerative cotton sequesters and helps in carbon absorption restoring soil health by strengthening the soil. It is less water-, chemical-, and energy-intensive as compared to conventional cotton. It also helps to replenish and support biodiversity in its ecosystem.
- Nettle Denim: This denim is made of nettle but it doesn’t sting. It is made in Italy using wild nettle collected from the Himalayan mountains and blended with organic cotton. Nettle is a naturally regenerative resource and helps support local communities by providing off-season work for farmers who wild-harvest the raw material without disruption to their farm activities. It can also be treated with PPRMINT™ oil to help keep the fabric fresher for longer.
- Hemp Denim: This denim is made of hemp. Hemp is often referred to as the Wonder Plant. It grows well without pesticides, and in our case, also without additional irrigation. It yields 3 times more fiber than cotton per acre and is 4 times stronger than cotton. We use natural indigo for the dye, from the Indigofera Tinctoria plant. Giving you plant-based denim.
- Biodegradable Polyester/Nylon: This fabric is made from 100% bio-based and biodegradable polyster/nylon from plants. Using recycled fibers helps reduce the fashion industry’s reliance on virgin materials while also reducing the amount of (post-industrial) waste generated by the industry.
